The 18th edition of the Super Smash League is all set to begin on December 23 as the defending champions Northern Knights will take on Canterbury Kings in the first match of the season at Bay Oval. A total of 32 matches will be played throughout the course of the season and the finals will be hosted on February 11. The venue of which hasn’t been announced yet.
Just like any other franchise tournament across the globe, it is going to be played in a round-robin format. All six teams - Auckland Aces, Canterbury Kings, Central Stags, Northern Knights, Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds will play each other twice in the group stage and out of which, the league leaders will qualify for the finals while the second and third-placed teams will play an eliminator in order to determine the second finalist.
Unfortunately, Super Smash is going to clash with New Zealand’s upcoming international games. Thus, a fair number of cricketers will not be available for quite a few games.
