Suryakumar Yadav is currently one of the most talked about players in the Indian squad. He has been very consistent of late, be it the home series against Australia or South Africa, or even the Asia Cup before that. Yadav has never failed to surprise. Even after getting a poor score in a game, he manages to bounce back stronger in the next and prove his worth.
The Indian team is preparing for the T20 World Cup 2022, and so are the remaining 16 teams. The tournament kick starts on October 16, and India’s first encounter will be against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23. The Men in Blue could not leave an impression last year, but having played plenty of T20Is in this calendar year, skipper Rohit Sharma would be eyeing his first ICC title as a captain.
Ahead of the opening day of the marquee event, all 16 captains addressed a press conference where Rohit Sharma spoke about Suryakumar Yadav and his current form in the shortest format of the game. Sharma heaped praises on Suryakumar Yadav, with whom he has been playing for quite a few years now as the duo also represents Mumbai Indians at the IPL, and Yadav plays under Sharma’s captaincy there as well. Speaking of him, Rohit Sharma said:
“Surya is in great form and is batting very well. I hope he continues to bat in that fashion, it is important for us that he bats well in the middle order. He's a very confident player, and he plays fearlessly whenever he plays. He puts his skillsets to the best use. I hope he becomes the ex-factor, and not just him, I hope everyone becomes our ex-factor which is difficult (laughs). But I hope Surya continues his good form in the World Cup also.”
Suryakumar Yadav inches closer to No. 1 spot
Suryakumar Yadav is also in the race to become the No. 1 T20I batter in the ICC rankings. He is currently in the second position and the top spot is occupied by Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. Yadav took a big leap in the rankings chart after putting up consistent performances in the games, and similar form would be expected from him at the World Cup too.
