'Going to eat my ears for next two days' - Suryakumar Yadav reacts to Ravi Bishnoi's knock in Chepauk thriller against England

In an exciting clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India defeated England by two wickets in the second T20I on January 25, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. While Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 72 off 55 was the main talking point, it was Ravi Bishnoi's last-minute cameo that eased the pressure on his in-form partner.

Chasing 166, India were in trouble at 126/7, with the duo of Varma and Bishnoi at the crease. Bishnoi’s two boundaries - a flick through midwicket off Carse and edge past backward point off Liam Livingstone - brought India back in the game, with Varma sealing the win with a boundary. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav reflected on Bishnoi’s cameo during the post-match presentation.

"He’s going to eat my ears for the next two days. He's been putting in a lot of hard work in the nets, he wants to contribute with the bat as well, it's a perfect example that he did it today and not to forget Arshdeep Singh as well," Surya said.

Earlier, England, batting first, managed 165/9 on the back of Brydon Carse’s 17-ball 31 and Jos Buttler’s 45. Indian bowlers, including Axar Patel (2-32) and Varun Chakravarthy (2-38), kept the visitors in constant pressure.

However, the chase was anything but straightforward. India lost wickets in quick succession, thanks to Jofra Archer and Carse. At one point, India looked destined for defeat before Varma steadied the innings. Yadav praised Varma’s responsibility and the team’s fighting abilities. 

"Very happy with the way Tilak batted, good to see someone like him taking responsibility. A little bit of relief with the way the game was going. We felt 160 was good. They bowled really well, good that that the game went down to the wire. We've been playing with an extra batter since the last 2-3 series. We want that cushion and also that batter gives us 2-3 overs in the game. The chat around was to play as we played the last game," he added.

With a 2-0 lead, India now heads to Rajkot for the third T20I on January 28, aiming to clinch the series against a strong England side.
