Indian head coach Rahul Dravid felt that it's not correct to rule out Ravindra Jadeja from the T20 World Cup despite the knee surgery that the latter would have to undergo. Jadeja was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 after yet again facing problems with his injury and it will be difficult for him to get fit and make it to the T20 World Cup 2022 squad now which has to be announced by September 15.
Jadeja has played a massive part in India’s dream run in the format since the previous T20 World Cup and holds an important role in the side. He brings a lot to the side with his fielding credentials and he was sent up the order against Pakistan which proved to a fruitful decision. India have the option to go in with Axar Patel who will be a like to like replacement, however, Jadeja’s presence will be missed for sure.
A lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury: Rahul Dravid
Dravid mentioned Jadeja has been taken care of by the medical team and felt that it is too early to rule him out of the T20 World Cup. He added that injuries are a part and parcel when it comes to sport and denied any thoughts on ruling him out until a clear picture of his injury is available.
"Jadeja has obviously injured his knee and is obviously ruled out of the Asia Cup. He's under the care of the medical team, he's going to see the doctors, he's going to see the experts. The World Cup is a fair way away so we don't want to jump into any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We'll see how it goes," Dravid told as quoted by Cricbuzz.
"It's part of sport, people get injured. It's part of our job to manage them, manage how it goes, and a lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We'll see how it goes. I don't want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Especially with the World Cup 6-7 weeks away from now," he added.
Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were already ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 due to injuries and Jadeja has been added to the list now.
