T20 World Cup 2022: List of Injured players ahead of the tournament
Pakistan are sweating over Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah's availability for the T20 World Cup.
The star South African bowling all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius becomes the latest player to be ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury reasons. Pretorius, who took three wickets in the third T20I match against India on October 4, suffered a left thumb fracture during the game. This injury has ruled him out of the ongoing ODI series against India and the T20 World Cup starting on October 16 in Australia.
Pakistan are also concerned over the availability of their star pace bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah. Shaheen suffered a right knee ligament injury during a Test match against Sri Lanka in July. He started his rehabilitation in London and is included in the World Cup squad. N
aseem tested positive for Covid-19 after he had suffered from Pneumonia after the first T20I match against England. He missed the last six games against England but has been reported fully recovered for the upcoming World Cup.
India are suffering the most due to injury reasons as star bowlers Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been completely ruled out of the tournament. Jadeja suffered a knee injury during adventure activity at the 2022 Asia Cup in UAE and Bumrah sustained a back injury during bilateral series against Australia last month.
The star pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara are included in Sri Lanka's 15-member sqaud, subject to fitness. Chameera is recovering from ankle injury he suffered against Australia in June and Kumra, who is recovering from a hamstring strain, hasn't played any international cricket since March 2022.
Sri Lanka are unlikely to risk both the players in the World Cup after impressive performances from other pacers Dilshan Madushanka and Pramod Madushan in the 2022 Asia Cup.
Jos Buttler and Marcus Stoinis are set to return
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was not included in the squad for the recently lost T20I series against India and the ongoing two-match series against West Indies due to injury. But Stoinis has been part of Australia's upcoming three-match T20I series against England, which will help him regain match fitness ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
England captain Jos Buttler suffered a calf injury while playing for Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2022 tournament. He has reportedly recovered from the injury but was not risked in the recent seven-match T20I series against Pakistan. Buttler is part of the upcoming T20I series against Australia and is likely to make his return to gain some match fitness.
