T20 World Cup 2022: Marco Jansen replaces Dwaine Pretorius in South Africa's squad for the tournament
Pretorius got injured during the recently concluded India tour.
South Africa have named all-rounder Marco Jansen as Dwaine Pretorius' replacement in the T20 World Cup squad. The latter got injured during the recently concluded India tour where the Proteas played three T20Is and ODIs each and lost both series by a 2-1 margin. Jansen was earlier part of the reserve players' list for the World Cup but an injury to Pretorius has opened up an opportunity for him to shine in the mega event.
Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa waited earlier on Pretorius' fitness and only named Jansen as his replacement for the ODIs against India. Jansen ended up playing the third and final ODI of the series scoring 14 runs with the bat. However, he wasn't as impressive with the ball conceding 43 runs in 5.1 overs.
But with the T20 World Cup set to be played in Australia, Marco Jansen and the Proteas team will be hoping for their pacers to get some help from the surfaces.
Marco Jansen has played only 1 T20I so far
Interestingly, Marco Jansen has played only a solitary T20I in his career so far. He made his debut in the format in June 2022 against India and returned with the figures of 1/38 in his four overs. Jansen featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and fared decently picking up nine wickets at an economy of 8.39. He will be looking to make the most of the chance he has got during the World Cup.
With India tour done and dusted, South Africa will now travel to Australia for the mega event. They are scheduled to commence their campaign on October 24 against the qualifying team at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Their next matches are against Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and the second qualifying team. The team had fared well in the previous mega event only to miss the semi-final berth due to net run-rate and will hope to go one step ahead this time around.
