T20 World Cup 2022, Match 29: Pakistan vs Netherlands - Talking points and Who Said What?
Pakistan registered their first win of the T20 World Cup 2022 as they got the better of the Netherlands by six wickets at the Perth Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan registered their first win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as they got the better of a lackluster Netherlands by six wickets in the Super 12 encounter at the Perth Stadium on Sunday, October 30. This was a must-win encounter for the Men in Green to keep their tournament hopes alive.
The Pakistani bowlers worked in tandem to ensure that the Dutch team did not surpass the 100-run mark with only two players- middle-order batter Colin Ackermann (27) and skipper Scott Edwards (15) breaching double figures. However, these scores were never going to be enough as the Netherlands with great difficulty managed to crawl to 91/9 from their quota of 20 overs.
In reply, Pakistan had some hiccups while overhauling this total as they lost four wickets in the process. While Shan Masood could not make much of an impact on the scoreboard, skipper Babar Azam had yet another forgettable outing as he was run out for four runs against his name.
Shadab Khan sinks the Netherlands with his three-wicket haul
Pakistan vice-captain rose to the occasion with an impressive three-wicket haul against the Dutch side. He dismissed the likes of opener Max O'Dowd, a well-set Colin Ackermann, and, Tom Cooper. He finished with bowling figures of 3/22 from his four overs at an economy of 5.5.
Mohammad Rizwan roars back to form
With Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman back in the hut early and with an in-form Shan Masood also unable to impress on the day, Mohammad Rizwan turned out to be Pakistan's savior with the bat chasing 92 as he went on to score 49 runs off 39 deliveries as the Men in Green got past the finish line in the 14th over.
Winning skipper, Babar Azam said:
Very happy. Performed very well in the bowling and in the batting. Length was crucial. Everyone executed their plans. In my opinion we could chase better than this. But a win always gives you confidence. We'll try to do our best in the next matches and win.
Losing Skipper, Scott Edwards said:
It was still the right decision to bat first. We thought if we got a score on the board, we'll give the bowlers a chance to defend it. Just not good enough today. Couldn't get partnerships together, couldn't string any boundaries. Bowlers always put their efforts in, but 90 was never going to be enough.
Player of the Match, Shadab Khan said:
I just tried to bowl it at the stumps, that was my plan, just to keep it simple. I have bowled against few of their players in county cricket, so I know how they play. All our bowlers bowled well. The fast bowlers put pressure in the powerplay, and I took wickets because of that pressure built. We didn't finish the game well in the last couple of matches, but we managed to do it today.
