The T20 World Cup is finally here with the group stage matches set to commence on October 22, Saturday. Rohit Sharma-led team India are to lock horns with Pakistan for what proves to be a high voltage clash by the arch rivals.
The mega clash between the two is scheduled to be played in the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground with the colossal venue, completely sold out. However, to fans' utter disappointment, there have been rounds of news reports that have suggested the possibility of rain during the match could be high.
Rain to play spoilsport?
The weather down under in Melbourne is known to remain cooler in October-November than in January with a temperature level ranging between 9 and 19 degrees. Therefore, with a good level of breeze, variable spells of rain can be expected.
The start time of the India-Pakistan clash is 7 pm local time, which translates to 1:30 pm IST. Fans of both cricketing nations may witness a scary sight considering the weather forecast on the day.
If the predictions of Accuweather are to be believed, there are occasional chances of rain and drizzle in the morning coupled with considerable cloudiness. Leading to the start of the match, the temperature could be around 16 degrees that suggests the ambience to be breezy and cloudy throughout with a wind speed of 22 km/h and cloud cover of 93%.
This could mean that we may witness the match happening under a cloudy weather but as per the latest predictions by Accuweather, rain may not be a possibility until the late night. Furthermore, it is understood that towards the second half of the match, the weather may come as a negative for the fans and the players. With a cloud cover of 100%, the probability of precipitation suggested is to be 90% with possibility of showers later on in the match.
This would mean that, we could possibly witness the match following up with the ‘Duckworth Lewis’ method. It remains to be seen if the match happens without the rain playing a spoilsport.
