November 13 turned out be a historic day for England as they established themselves as the giants of white-ball cricket as they won the T20 World Cup 2022 by defeating Pakistan in the final. England came into the tournament with the tag of favourites and they managed to turn the tables despite a surprise defeat against Ireland in the Super 12 stages. Ben Stokes, who was at the receiving end in the 2016 T20 World Cup final, turned out to the hero in England’s run chase against Pakistan in the finals in 2022 at the MCG.

As England scored the winning runs, the celebrations were on in the dressing room. Later when the trophy was handed to the winning skipper Jos Buttler, the champagne bottles were ready to open before Buttler came up with a beautiful gesture. England team had two Islamic followers, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali and both were given time to step aside before the rest of the team started champagne celebrations.

Buttler, respecting the faith of his teammates, decided to click a picture with the whole team at first, and then reminded them of the champagne celebrations that was about to take place. Rashid and Moeen left the place as the other team members opened the champagne bottles and celebrated.

Here’s the video of the gesture from Buttler

Pat Cummins last year had shown a similar gesture after the thumping Ashes victory against England towards Usman Khawaja as he stopped others from opening the bottles and called Khawaja onto the stage to complete the victorious moments and photographs. It also showed that the game of cricket does not allow religious discriminations and every faith gets its own respect.
