After an impressive start to the year by earning a qualification for the T20 World Cup 2022 and wins against Ireland, the UAE team suffered a massive setback by not qualifying for the Asia Cup 2022. Vriitya Aravind, the vice-captain of the side in an exclusive interview to CricTracker mentioned how difficult it was for the entire team to digest.

Following the fiasco, the team also lost the two-match T20I series against Bangladesh at home and thus, heading into the T20 World Cup 2022, UAE will be under a lot of pressure.

Despite their poor run of form, it’s not that the road to Super 12 is very tough and unreachable for the UAE. The team will challenge the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Namibia in the First Round of the event and will start as one of the favourites to make it Super 12. However, in T20 cricket it is indeed difficult to predict the outcome.

Their captain CP Rizwan along with opener Chirag Suri will be two of the key figures in the UAE team. Rizwan’s knock against Bangladesh in the second T20I may not have secured a win but was brilliant nonetheless. 20-year-old Vriitya Aravind has also shown immense maturity but his runs have dried up at the moment. Otherwise, he is someone who can take the game away from the opposition.

The exclusion of Rohan Mustafa from the squad has created a massive controversy as the experienced all-rounder played 55 T20 internationals for the nation and picked up 61 wickets at an economy of 6.86. He can create a big impact with the bat as well. Thus, him not being a part of the squad might hurt the side in the mega event.
