As India prepares to face defending champions England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final on June 27, in Guyana, all eyes are on skipper Rohit Sharma. His aggressive batting and inspirational leadership have not only guided India to the knockout stage unbeaten but have also caught the attention of cricket legends worldwide.

The Men in Blue's approach until the semi-final has been fearless and the chief architect of it has been Rohit, whose brilliant knock of 92 runs against Australia in a crucial Super Eight clash helped into confirm their semi-final spot. The knock, consisting of seven fours and eight sixes, set the tone for India's 24-run victory and ultimately led to Australia's exit from the tournament.

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist was lavish in his praise for Rohit and his mindset. Gilchrist also emphasised how the 37-year-old performance has silenced the critics who questioned his place in the team.

"That's right. He is making those statements off the field. This is how we play. And on the field, it's inspiration stuff, it's great entertainment. And question marks around his T20 impact - all the IPL stats and all that -- that's just again a reinforcement of the value of his leadership and the value of a team that is inspired by him. It was a really good stroke selection, knowing where to go to put the bowler off," Gilchrist told Cricbuzz.

The Australian legend was impressed by Rohit's shot selection and ability to unsettle the bowlers which was evident in India's match against the Aussies, where the Indian skipper's aggressive intent didn't change even after losing Virat Kohli for a golden duck.

His fifty came in just 19 balls, the fastest fifty against Australia in a T20 World Cup. His innings set the tone for India to post a total of 205. The veteran also highlighted the positive effect of his leadership on the team.

"We often hear leaders say, it's not about the results, it's about the process. He has stated what the process should be -- that is be aggressive at all costs. If you lose your batting partner, no issues, focus on the process -- that is be aggressive. That sort of expertise as a leader and the guidance that he is giving his playing XI, they are going with him," he concluded.
