T20 World Cup 2024: Afghanistan players dance in team bus to celebrate semi-finals qualification, video goes viral

The Afghanistan Cricket Team scripted history on Tuesday, June 25, as they managed to qualify for the semifinals of a World Cup for the first time. They pulled off the miraculous feat by defeating Bangladesh in a low-scoring thriller by eight runs (DLS method) at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent.

After restricting the Afghans to 115/5 in their 20 overs, Bangladesh were set a DLS target of 114 in 19 overs. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto's men needed to chase the total in 12.1 overs or 12.4 overs if they hit a six once the scores are tied to progress to the semis. They were eventually bowled out for 105 to give Afghanistan a much-deserved ticket to the semifinals.

Emotions ran wild after the monumental result for the Afghan players, as they were seen singing and dancing with unadulterated joy. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who got injured during the match, was seen sobbing profusely. Later, Afghanistan's bowling consultant Dwayne Bravo uploaded a story on his Instagram handle where the players were seen dancing their hearts out in the team bus, led by Gulbadin Naib.

Bravo had joined Afghanistan as bowling consultant ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup and has already developed a strong bond with the players and the fans. He has been quite active on the sidelines, suggesting plans to captain Rashid Khan and the other bowlers in the side. The Blue Tigers have been one of the better bowling sides in the tournament and have made great use of the helpful conditions. The Caribbean cricketer is considered as one of the finest bowlers in T20 cricket history, and the move to rope him in as bowling consultant, is paying rich dividends.

The Blue Tigers will be locking horns with an unbeaten South African side in the first semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, June 27, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Meanwhile, England and India will face each other in the second semifinal on the same day at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The final will be held at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
