T20 World Cup 2024: Glenn Maxwell opens up on Travis Head, David Warner's importance in Australia's unbeaten run

For Australia, the opening duo of David Warner and Travis Head has been providing explosive starts that have been crucial to their team's success in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. All-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, recently opened up on what makes this pairing so effective.

Head's recent IPL performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad was nothing short of spectacular, scoring 567 runs in 15 matches at an average of 40.50 and an impressive strike rate of 191.55. This great form has replicated in his international performances. Warner, on the other hand, despite a quieter IPL season with Delhi Capitals, has found his rhythm in the multinational event.

As Australia prepare to face Afghanistan in their next Super Eights fixture on June 23 at the Arnos Vale Ground, the team will enter with an unbeaten run in the tournament, all thanks to their openers' performances. Warner has scored 169 runs, while Head has smashed 179 runs in five matches respectively, and the duo has given their side impressive starts.

“Yeah, I think they both hit it in such different areas. I know they both cut well, but I think the way that Trav has gone through the IPL, dominated, done well, it’s come in with a lot of confidence, and he’s just played such good, aggressive cricket and probably taken the game away from a lot of teams. And David has started so crisp pretty much in most of the games,” Maxwell said in the pre-match press conference, according to India.com.

Their complementary skills and aggressive approach have been instrumental in the team's dominant displays. Maxwell highlighted the contrasting yet complementary styles of Warner and Head. The duo's effectiveness was particularly evident in their match against England, where they stitched up a 70-run opening stand, off just 30 deliveries.

“And you got to look back at that England game where they sort of broke the back of the match in those first six overs when the wicket wasn’t playing like a 12 an over in a power play type of game, but the way, I suppose (they) got us ahead allowed us to sort of set up the back end, and we’re very blessed to have two extremely talented guys at the top of the order who are doing a great job for us,” Maxwell said further.
