New Zealand have managed to sneak a win amidst their underwhelming outing at the T20 World Cup 2024. The Kiwis lost two games on the trot and managed to wing against Uganda in the third game by nine wickets. The first two losses quashed their Super 8 dreams and they have one more game to go in the group stage. After the win over Uganda, the Blackcaps presented a signed jersey by Kane Williamson to their peers.

On the other hand, Uganda’s campaign concluded with a sole win in four games they played in the group stage. They registered a memorable win against Papua New Guinea and suffered losses against Afghanistan, West Indies, and New Zealand. Group C, where both New Zealand and Uganda were also part of, saw Afghanistan and West Indies march towards the Super 8 stage.

The teams have been getting more exposure at the highest level: Williamson

New Zealand were haunted by the poor forms riding on the backs of their key players. The likes of Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Finn Allen, and Daryl Mitchell displayed abysmal form with the bat. Their bowling was also a point of concern at death as Tim Southee remained unavailable for the first game against Afghanistan. Mitchell Santner managed just one wicket in the first games. Williamson highlighted the importance of teams like Uganda playing in ICC tournaments.

“Our guys were good. Was a tough surface. Not a lot of control of ideas and methods. That made a difference. We saw that in the previous match, it has been unique, better to play this way in this match. The teams have been getting more exposure at the highest level, helps to develop as a team. Having that exposure is always a great experience to learn from. Need to train again and play again. The same discussions all again. Have been respectful about the conditions, we'll rest and play again in a couple of days,” said Williamson at the post-match presentation.
