Newly appointed Australia's T20 captain, Mitchell Marsh explained the reason behind dropping Jake Fraser-McGurk from the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1. Notably, the youngster was sensational in the last edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), which helped him earn an international reputation as Dubai Capitals signed him for ILT20. Later on, Delhi Capitals signed the dynamic batter and he smashed 259 runs in six matches at a phenomenal strike rate of 233.33 in IPL 2024.
Despite so, the 22-year-old failed to make a cut in Australia’s T20 World Cup squad. Justifying that, Marsh explained that the team management was happy with the services of Travis Head and David Warner as openers and didn’t consider any change to that - which forced Fraser-McGurk to miss out. However, he lauded the youngster, called him an ‘outstanding talent’ and believes that he will have a bright future.

Fraser-McGurk's rise in the IPL
“Jakey is an outstanding talent. I think you know the way he’s taking on the IPL, he’s taken it by storm, they’re all loving him, and certainly, the Delhi crew are enjoying his company and enjoying what he brings to the team and there’s no doubt that he’s going to have a huge future, wherever he plays,” Marsh told SEN.
“But we feel like we’ve got all bases covered within our team. Heady and David Warner have been fantastic for us, not only for a long period of time but over the last 18 months building towards this (T20) World Cup. We’re really comfortable that we’ve got the right 15, to hopefully take us deep into the (T20) World Cup,” the 32-year-old added.

Fraser-McGurk has taken IPL by storm. He wasn’t part of the scheme of things in the initial matches but Warner’s injury opened the door for the cricketer, who has been impressive ever since. He is playing a fearless brand of cricket and that has helped the franchise win quite a lot of games in the 17th edition of the tournament.
