Tabraiz Shamsi opts out of CSA contract with immediate effect

In an unforeseen move that has come as a bombshell, Cricket South Africa and Tabraiz Shamsi, in a joint decision, have announced that the wrist spinner has opted out of his national contract on an immediate basis.

Shamsi reasoned that his withdrawing himself from the national contracts was a conscious decision made by him in order to be more flexible and look after his family in better ways.

“I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore all opportunities available and look after my family in the best way possible,” stated Shamsi, as quoted by The South African.

He also made it clear that he would be ready to represent the Titans, his boyhood club, whenever they are in need of him.

“The Titans are also fully supportive of my decision, and I will be a part of the Titans squad whenever I am available.

The Director of Cricket of CSA, Enoch Nkwe, who was one of the three members Shamsi thanked in his statement regarding their consultation and support on the issue, also had a few words to say on Shamsi's decision.

“Shamo is a key member of our white-ball squads, and while we respect his decision, we are pleased that he remains committed to representing South Africa. We sincerely appreciate his honesty and openness on the matter, which is integral and what we want from our players,” mentioned Nkwe.

I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed: Shamsi

Shamsi further exemplified that opting out of the national contracts has no relation to not prioritizing his country's requirements.

“This will not impact my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas in any way and I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup home to South Africa, and no franchise league will ever be more important than playing for my country," added Shamsi.
