'Indian Cricket is healing' - Twitter reacts to BCCI's sacking of national selection committee
BCCI has invited fresh applications for the positions of national selectors.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shocked the entire Indian cricketing fraternity on Friday, November 18, with its sudden decision to sack the national selection committee led by former India cricketer Chetan Sharma.
Even though the board has decided to stay mum about the entire process, reports claim that the selection committee's failure to build a strong squad has led to its departure. It is worth noting that in the past year, the Men in Blue had as many as eight different captains. But even after boasting multiple leaders in the dressing room, the team failed to win any major trophy.
In the meantime, BCCI has already invited fresh applications for the position of five national selectors, with November 28 set as the deadline for the same. This is also BCCI’s second major move under new president Roger Binny, with equal pay to male and female cricketers being the first.
Now, as per reports, the board is also looking to appoint two different captains for different formats in the near future. The Roger Binny-led administrative body might want Hardik Pandya to take up the reins in the T20Is and have Rohit Sharma to lead the ODI and the Test team. Hardik's success as the captain of Gujarat Titans has played a massive role in this regards.
Many on Twitter were overjoyed following BCCI’s decision as they reminded how the selection panel played its part in removing Virat Kohli as India's ODI captain. While there’s a huge section that believes the committee failed miserably in bringing stability and multiple chopping and changing cost India the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy.
