‘Takes time to regain the old rhythm’ - Sohail Tanvir provides his stance on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury

Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir claimed that India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will find it tricky to get back to his rhythm, following his injury. Notably, Bumrah has not featured in competitive cricket since September 2022, owing to a back injury.

Bumrah has since then been confined to the sidelines as he missed the home series against South Africa and subsequently, the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Additionally, he is officially ruled out of the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is likely to be out of contention for India's squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, as per reports.

Former Pakistan pacer Tanvir stated that the kind of injury endured by Bumrah is a major setback for any pacer. He further backed his claim by citing his personal experience in dealing with prolonged injuries while playing for Pakistan.

"When such major injuries happen, because I've been in the same situation. I had knee surgery, I had only played for two years, I started facing issues in my knees. I underwent surgery, and it was not managed properly, the rehab was not done well, so I know how difficult it is to return,” Tanvir told Sports Yaari.

“But when you return from major injuries, for example, knee or back and you've gone through a surgery, then it's very difficult. When you start playing again it takes time to regain the old rhythm," he added.

In March, Bumrah travelled to New Zealand for the treatment of his back injury and successfully underwent surgery. While there is still time for his return, it remains to be seen if the pacer will be fully fit for the Asia Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Tanvir further stated that he does not expect the pacer to come all guns blazing upon his return and fans may not see the ‘old Bumrah’ again immediately.

"I'm not sure about Bumrah's situation but pacers returning after a major surgery need time to regain the old rhythm. I'm not saying pacers don't reach there, but not immediately. Woh aaya toh aapko wahi Bumrah nazar na aaye (When Bumrah returns then you might not see the old him). Maybe it could take time,” he added.
