With eight wickets to his name from four matches in the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup, Taskin Ahmed has delivered time and again for Bangladesh. The 27-year-old used his variations well enough and often confused the batters with his sheer pace. Now, the Bangla Tigers have managed to win two matches so far in the tournament with their last game still on and in both games, Taskin was adjudged as the Player of the Match. Thus, he has been an impactful bowler and has always stepped up in crunch situations.
Habibul Bashar, former Bangladesh skipper is thus very impressed with the speedster. Lauding him for his incredible performance, the 50-year-old called Taskin to be Bangladesh’s best player in the tournament and hopes he remains injury free to take Bangladesh cricket forward.
“Taskin Ahmed, yeah, He has been the star of the tournament for Bangladesh. He bowled well in each and every game. He bowled with good pace and his line and length was just fantastic. He’s a wicket-taking option for Bangladesh. I hope he stays injury free because it was a issue for him in the past for which he lost one or two years from his career but he is fit now, he is eager to perform and he is actually one of the pick of the bowlers in the tournament,” said the former Bangladesh international on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.
Whenever Bangladesh plays India, they give tough time to them: Bashar
Even though India started as the favourites to win the match against Bangladesh, the Shakib Al Hasan-led side soon changed its complexion. After the powerplay in the second innings, Bangladesh were cruising for a massive win but their middle-order batters failed to step up and finally lost the game by just five runs.
Habibul Bashar in the show stressed the fact of how close Bangladesh came in order to win the game. However, he explained why and how Bangladesh fail to move gears and despite having an upper hand, failed to materialise against their neighbouring countries.
“Bangladesh almost won against India, they almost won (laughs)! But yes, because they do not have any consistency and a consistent performer in T20 cricket, it makes India and Pakistan the favourites when they play Bangladesh. Even in today’s game against Pakistan, they (Babar Azam’s side) are the favourites. In match against India, they are always ahead of us,” said Bashar on the same show.
“But anytime Bangladesh plays against India, be it World Cup or Asia Cup stage, they always give a tough time to them! In their mind, I think they can win the game today against Pakistan,” he added.
