The Sheffield Shield game between South Australia and Tasmania turned into a memorable win for the former and an unforgettable moment for Tasmania. South Australia had set Tasmania a target of 429. Tasmania were nine down chasing the target and it all boiled down to them needing just four runs with one ball remaining.

Before the final delivery, Tasmania needed just seven runs in nine balls with four wickets in hand. Then came the collapse of the tailenders and they needed four runs off the last ball for a win. The batter on strike was Riley Meredith and the bowler who bowled the ultimate delivery was Wes Agar. He bowled from around the wicket and pin-pointed the yorker out on the offside.

It is worth noting that, the odds of Tasmania losing the game were only if they had lost the final wicket for two runs or less. A dismissal following three runs would have seen the game end it a tie. But as the draw was clearly on the cards in case of no boundary, but no striker Neil Smith had other plans. Meredith dug the yorker and barged for a single.

The non-striker, Smith responded well but Meredith demanded another run and wanted to squeeze in another run. Smith who was well in his crease was not ready to abide by Meredith’s call for another run and asked him to stay put at the non-striker's end. Meredith was halfway down the pitch and Tasmania fielder Benjamin Maneti collected the ball to run him out.

“Wild stuff in the Shield. Tasmania needed 4 from 1 v SA. 9 down, Riley Meredith on strike to Wes Agar. Bunts it to cover. They run one. For some unknown reason try to come back for 2. Three never on. Run out. SA win. Donald/Klusener type silliness,” a Twitter user reacted.
