The ODI World Cup 2023 is right around the corner. The marquee event is all set to begin on October 5 and is being completely hosted by India. As the world’s best teams gear up to take on each other in the tournament, the excitement for the event also rises in the minds of the fans.

Ahead of the tournament, the South African cricket team became the latest squad to depart for India. Led by Temba Bavuma, South Africa will look to put in good performances in the World Cup and will be hopeful of their progress and showings in the tournament.

Boasting an enormous amount of talent, South Africa will still have a depleted squad in the World Cup. The side was hit with a major setback as their injury concerns turned into nightmares.

The team travelled to India without two key pacers, Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala. As both players were injured and unable to make a recovery in time, the Proteas will be without their services in the marquee tournament. As for their replacement, Cricket South Africa came forward to name Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams to take the place of the injured pacers.

South Africa kick-off World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka

Speaking of South Africa’s upcoming assignments, the side will be playing two World Cup matches against Afghanistan and New Zealand on September 29 and October 2, respectively. After that, they will kick off their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka.

The Proteas take on Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 7, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The side will look to put in a good performance in their first World Cup game and look to leave their recent ODI series result against Australia behind.
