Test series versus India could be tightly held until last game, got to manage resources accordingly: Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins shared his experience of playing home Test series against India in the past. Ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins next month, the Aussie skipper noted that it will be important for the two teams to manage their resources well as it could be a gruelling affair.

Australia will be seeking redemption as the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy has eluded them since 2017. India beat the Aussies on their last two Test tours Down Under. Rohit Sharma and Co. will look for a historic hat-trick in the five-match Test series. Cummins feels that the series will be closely-contested and that is why it is important to keep the players fresh.

"The couple of home series I’ve played against India there’s always an element of attrition on them. The last series came down to the last session at the Gabba on the last day of the last Test match," Cummins said while speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"That’s a good thing to keep in mind; it is a long series, and it might be tightly held until the last game, so you’ve got to manage your resources throughout," the 31-year-old added.

Cummins addressed all the talk around Australia's batting order, as it would be interesting to see who opens along with Usman Khawaja.

"It’s up to me and Ron to set the order. I know there’s always commentary around everything to do with cricket. You listen to some, you don’t listen to others, but we’re still a fair way out from the series, so still a bit of water to go under the bridge," Cummins noted.

The five Tests will be played in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. The first Test begins on November 22. India are placed at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC), while Australia are at No. 2. This adds more intrigue and excitement to the series.
