Ishan Kishan made his Test debut in the first of the two-match Test series against the West Indies in Roseau, Dominica. He scored a solitary run in 20 balls and remained not out as India declared at 421/5. In the first innings of the second Test in Port of Spain, Trinidad, he looked good during his 37-ball 25 but couldn't capitalise on the good start.

It was in the second innings when the wicketkeeper-batter showed his range of shots as he played a blistering 52-run knock in just 34 balls. India needed some quick runs and promoted the youngster to No. 4. The move paid dividends.

Fans were thrilled to see the aggressive approach from India and many compared it to England's 'Bazball' style that has taken the cricket world by storm in recent times. They wondered if India would adopt that approach going forward. However, Kishan gave a straightforward answer when he was asked about the same. The 25-year-old said that playing aggressively or not in Test cricket should depend on the conditions as some places are not conducive to free-flowing batting.

"It's not necessary that everyday you come in and start playing fast cricket. That should depend on the situation. The condition of the pitches also plays a role in how quickly one can score runs," said Kishan, who was promoted in the batting order to score quick runs on the fourth day of the second Test. Mostly, where we play, wickets are not that easy, there is turn and bounce. So, playing quick on those surface there is no point because you need to read the wicket properly," Kishan said in the post-match press conference as quoted by NDTV.

"If you get a wicket where you can score quick runs and the need of the hour is to do that, then every player in the (Indian) team has the capability to perform that role. The kind of players we have and the number of formats and matches that we play, everyone knows his role -- which match one has to play in what manner. So, personally, I feel, every match we don't need to play like that (score quickly), but it should be situation-based," he said.

You need guys like Ishan [Kishan]: Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma heaped praise on Ishan Kishan and mentioned that the southpaw wasn't afraid of the situation in India's second innings of the second Test.

"You need guys like Ishan [Kishan]. We wanted quick runs, we promoted him up the order, he was not afraid. He was the first one to put the hand up as well and went there and got those quick runs for us," Sharma said is the post-match presentation ceremony.
