The Day 5 of the second Test of Ashes 2023 has been an enthralling affair as fans have got to witness several memorable moments during the day. However, the most talked about moment of the day was Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal by Alex Carey. The Australian wicketkeeper cunningly ran his England counterpart out as he ventured out of the crease after leaving the ball to talk to Ben Stokes at the other end.

Sensing an opportunity, Carey hit the stumps and inflicted the dismissal which didn’t go down well with England players and the crowd. Following Bairtsow’s dismissal Stuart Broad walked out to bat and even had some words to say to Carey.

"You'll forever be remembered for that," Broad was heard speaking on the stump mic.

He could be then heard talking to Australia captain Pat Cummins.

"Literally, that's the worst thing I've ever seen in cricket, that," the lanky pacer further said to the Australian captain after arriving at the crease.

The dismissal has got the entire cricketing fraternity divided with some calling it against the spirit of the game while others calling it well within the rules. Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has termed it against the spirit of the game.

Hogg took to Twitter and wrote, “Bairstow wicket, Not Out. Spirit of cricket pushed to the boundary. Not attempting a run, end of over, scratched crease then walked for the regulation BS chat between overs between batsman #ashes #ENGvsAUS.”

Meanwhile, following Bairstow’s dismissal, England were left reeling at 193/6 with 178 runs required to win. However, skipper Ben Stokes took the onus upon himself and unleashed his beast mode on Australia and launched an onslaught. The 32-year-old was on 62*(126) at the time of Bairstow’s dismissal and ended up scoring his next 38 runs in 16 balls as he raced to his hundred in 142 balls.

The England skipper further brought up his 150 in 197 balls smashing nine fours and nine consecutive sixes on his way. Stokes and Broad added over 100 runs for the seventh wicket and took Australia closer to victory.
