Just like many other cricketers in the recent past, youngster Shubman Gill too has been targeted on various social media platforms in the last couple of weeks. The 23-year-old smacked a cracking century against Royal Challengers Bangalore to knock them out of IPL 2023 and received threats on social media, with some even targetting his family members.

Speaking about the same, Gill stated that the best way to get over with it is to completely ignore it. The Punjab-born cricketer mentioned that such things did affect him previously but these days, he choses to ignore them to keep his sanity intact.

“When it first started happening to me, it did affect me for some time, for a month or so. But I think eventually you get over it. The best way to get over it is just to not look at them or just to ignore them. Once you start doing that, once you start ignoring them, even if you see it, it wouldn’t affect you this much because then you sort of understand where those people are also coming from. They are also very attached, they are also very emotional,” Gill told News18.

Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet: Gill

Gill has been one of the most consistent performers for both team India and Gujarat Titans in the recent past. The cricketer recently scored a double-century against New Zealand in the first ODI of the series and he is currently the top run-scorer in IPL 2023, having amassed 851 runs in 16 matches so far. Meanwhile, talking about his recent performances, Gill stated that it is a never-ending journey as he wakes up every day thinking that the job is not done yet.

“I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Once IPL finishes, the World Test Championship start. Once WTC is over, Asia Cup will be there. Once Asia Cup is over, you’ll be like ‘Oh, the World Cup is here’. So there is always something in my mind that I look forward to, and (feel) the job is not done yet. But it’s been a great year so far for me and I’m really fortunate and really happy for that,” he stated.
