'The consistency of the past seasons is paying off' - Anjum Chopra on Rajasthan Royals' sparkling run in IPL 2024
The Rajasthan Royals have been in stunning form in IPL 2024, winning six out of their seven games up until now.
The Rajasthan Royals have been on a winning spree in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League so far, winning six out of their seven games, and are looking in a really good position to book their berth as far as the playoffs are concerned, maybe even a top 2 finish if they finish the group stages on a high.
The clash of the table-toppers, Match 31 of IPL 2024, between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Rajasthan Royals turned out to be an absolute nail-biter. RR just about managed to pull off a heist against KKR at the Eden Gardens, courtesy of a dazzling ton by linchpin Jos Buttler, who scored a power-packed 60-ball 107-run knock, laced with nine fours and six sixes. His batting partners ranged from fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to pace bowler Avesh Khan, but Buttler remained till the end, smashing the opposition bowlers left, right & centre, notching up RR's sixth victory with a single off the final delivery of the match. The mind-blowing run-chase set a new record for the highest total to be chased by a team batting second in the IPL.
Former Indian captain, Anjum Chopram, who is a part of the JioCinema commentary panel for the IPL 2024, in a recent conversation with myKhel, lauded RR's consistency over the past couple of seasons. Notably, RR finished runners-up in the 2022 edition and just about missed out on a spot in the playoffs by the narrowest of margins in the following season. She believed that the players had total clarity and had their roles cut out from the beginning, with each individual knowing their respective responsibility. A standard blueprint of Buttler scoring runs up top, the utilization of West Indian Rovman Powell, were some exemplars given by Chopra to further reinforce her point.
"The consistency of the two seasons is paying off. The players also understand what they have to work on. When you lose, you keep on thinking about winning. But when you start winning, you figure out how we are winning and what is the reason for our wins. Because of their consistency since the last few seasons they know what to do - Jos Buttler has to score runs, how do we have to use Rovman Powell," Anjum Chopra told MyKhel.com.
Someone or the other is stepping up for them: Chopra
Speaking on the usual tactics of employing three overseas players in the first half of the game and bringing in the fourth option in the second half, Chopra asserted that despite Jaiswal not being in the best of nick up until now, the middle-order has risen to the occasion whenever the demand arose, with the likes of skipper Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer coming good whenever called upon to deliver.
"They play three players in the first-half and bring fourth overseas players in the second-half. They are using their foreign stars very well. The good part is that the middle-order is doing well for them, even though Yashasvi has not been in the best of forms, but Shimron Hetmyer, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag are scoring, someone is stepping up for them," Chopra remarked.
