Trent Boult has been an integral part of the New Zealand national team for years now. The 33-year-old left-handed swing bowler is one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket to this day. Last year, New Zealand Cricket announced its decision to release Trent Boult from central contract. This happened due to Boult wanting to compete in the various T20 leagues around the world.

Boult is currently competing in the UAE’s International League T20 for the MI Emirates. With the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup approaching, Boult could be coming back to the BlackCaps to spearhead the bowling attack for the team.

New Zealand’s chief selector, Gavin Larsen, has opened the doors for Boult’s return to the New Zealand side for the ODI World Cup this year. Boult's return to the squad will provide the Kiwis with much-needed boost in their bowling.

We all know Boulty's pedigree, his experience, and just what a great match-winner he is: Larsen

The left-hand pacer is undoubtedly one of the best bowlers in the world, and due to his absence, the BlackCaps’ relatively inexperienced bowling attack has seemed to struggle. Boult’s entry back into the team could prove to be the solution to their problems.

"The door is very much open, Gary [Stead, the head coach] and Trent talk on a regular basis. We all know Boulty's pedigree, his experience, and just what a great match-winner he is and has been over the years for us," stated Gavin Larsen on SENZ Mornings.

"We want him to be involved, we'd love for him to be involved; we understand entirely his situation, so we will keep working with him. We've got a World Cup at the end of the year, and I've got my fingers crossed that if the stars align, we'll have a certain Trent Boult opening the bowling for us," Larsen added further.

Boult’s entry back into the New Zealand squad seems the need of the hour as they lost the ODI series to India 0-3.
