Asghar Afghan has said that skipper Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan's experience of playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia will help Afghanistan in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 opening clash against England at the Perth Stadium on Saturday, Ocober 22.
Rashid and Nabi who are always in huge demand for playing overseas franchise leagues across the globe have been integral members of the BBL since the 2017/18 season representing the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades respectively.
Our entire team has not played over there: Asghar Afghan
"Look our entire team has not played over there (in Australian conditions), but Nabi and Rashid have played there. Qais Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have also played there. Rest of our players have not played in Australia. After the 2015 World Cup, we have not played any cricket in Australia", said Asghar Afghan while speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker'.
"We are going there after 7-8 years and so our it will be tough for our players. However, I am confident that those senior players Rashid and Nabi must have shared their experieces with the players since the duo has played a lot of cricket down under. There is a lot of difference in the Asian and Australian conditions", he added.
Coming back to the contest, the Afghans showcased a dismal batting performance as none of the batters could get going as the English bowlers made the most of the Perth wicket with regular breakthroughs. Youngster Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers for the Three Lions as he registered an outstanding fifer.
Curran finished with figures of 5/10 from his 3.4 overs at an economy rate of 2.7 as Afghanistan were bundled out for just 112 runs in the final over.
Only Ibrahim Zadran (32) and Usman Ghani (30) showed some resistance with the bat in what was otherwise a sorry-looking scorecard for the Afghans.
