The Hundred 2024: Rashid Khan to miss remaining matches with hamstring injury

Trent Rockets have suffered a massive blow as talismanic all-rounder Rashid Khan has been ruled out of the remainder of The Hundred 2024 after suffering a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old sustained the injury while fielding in the final over of his side's most recent clash against Southern Brave on Saturday, August 10, at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

According to an ESPNCricinfo report, Australian spin-bowling all-rounder Chris Green has been roped in as a replacement for the Afghanistan stalwart. The Rockets are still in contention for a spot in the knockouts as they are placed at No. 5 on the points table with three wins and as many losses from six games. They play their last two matches in the round-robin phase against fourth-placed Birmingham Phoenix on Monday (August 12) and table-toppers Oval Invincibles on Wednesday (August 14).

Apart from Rashid, the Trent Rockets received another injury blow in the form of Imad Wasim. However, the Pakistani all-rounder hasn't been ruled out as yet and is in line to recover for the all-important clash against Birmingham.

In Trent Rockets' last game, Rashid was taken for five consecutive sixes by Southern Brave's Kieron Pollard and that turned out to be a massive turning point. Trent Rockets lost by two wickets with a ball left. However, apart from the mauling received at the hands of Pollard, the Nangarhar-born had bowled well in the tournament.

In five matches, Rashid bagged nine wickets at an average of 16 and a strike rate of 11.11. However, his economy rate (8.64) was on the higher side, especially by his lofty standards. With the bat, Rashid scored 44 runs at a strike rate of 157.15 and treated his fans to some of his vintage shots.

Rashid underwent a back surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023 and made a comeback ahead of the Indian Premier League earlier this year. In June, he led Afghanistan to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.
