'The Lord of The Rings' actor Charlie Vickers names Virat Kohli as his favourite cricketer

Charlie Vickers, star of "The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power," recently revealed his admiration for star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. In the same vein, the renowned actor shared about how he almost ended up meeting the modern cricket great.

Vickers, known for his role in the popular Amazon Prime series, confessed that outside the Australian cricket team, he was a massive fan of none other than Kohli. During his stay in Auckland, Vickers had a fan-boy moment. Recalling his New Zealand visit, the star actor revealed that he spotted Kohli in the same hotel where he was staying. The actor described the experience as surreal as he was seemingly starstruck.

"So, I will say him because of that encounter,” the actor told News18.

However, when asked whether he managed to exchange pleasantries with the Indian sporting legend?

"No, I was too nervous," Vickers admitted.

The Melbourne-born also opened up about his connection to Indian culture through cricket. He mentioned that Australian fast bowler Brett Lee served as his window to Bollywood, citing Lee's musical collaboration with legendary singer Asha Bhosle on the song "You're The One For Me."

While Vickers couldn't join his castmates during their promotional visit to India for the first season of "The Rings of Power," he admitted that the visit had a lasting impression on his colleagues, "Half of the cast speaks so fondly of their time there.” 

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is currently in London with his family and will be next seen in action in the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, starting next month. Notably, the 35-year-old announced his retirement from the T20 format after India's win in the T20 World Cup in June and his focus is on the other two formats.
