The fate of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has come down to the final game at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) where Australia will look for a win or a draw while the Indians need a win to retain the trophy. Though it was the exceptional performance from the Australian bowlers on Day 5 which won them the Boxing Day Test, the batters' contributions cannot be overlooked.

Though it has been a Travis Head show right from the start, the Australian middle-order batter being the leading run-getter, the series has also seen Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne come back to form. Though there are still some batters who have not lived up to the standards in the series it seems like wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey is pleased with the performances. He opened up on what the mood of the entire team is.

“Travis has scored the bulk of the runs early in the series, and then Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne stepped up. We're pretty level, and like I said, it hasn't changed a lot from a really poor fixture. We understand it wasn't the way we wanted to play, but I think staying level and understanding that we're a good team has been the way," Carey said in a pre-match news conference.

“The mood hasn't changed a lot. We're a proud group. We wanted to bounce back from Perth, but I don't think we had to change too much for a lot to change. It's been really level throughout the series, trusting
players to perform when their time comes," Carey added.

The Australians will more or less fix their place in the WTC Final in June if they either win or draw the match in Sydney which will be played on from Friday, January 3. On the other hand, India will have to win the game to retain the title and hope the Sri Lankans do them a favour.
