Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi opined that the remaining matches of the ongoing PSL (Pakistan Super League) will be unaffected by the terrorist attack on the Karachi police chief's office on Friday, February 16.

Najam Sethi opined that the matches will continue as scheduled, as presidential security has been in place for the players and officials since the start of the league.

"The PSL matches will continue as per schedule. All the players are being well looked after,” Najam Sethi was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Furthermore, another one of the board officials said that the various security agencies and the government have given clearance to conduct PSL matches despite the ongoing tensions. "The incident that happened yesterday is unrelated to the PSL," the official said.

It is also worth noting that two of the PSL matches are scheduled to be held at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday and Sunday and seeing the ongoing tension, security has been increased at the team hotel and at the stadium itself as well.

PSL 2024 gets off to flying start

Speaking of the ongoing PSL 2024, the tournament has already seen as many as five games played so far, with some teams putting in exceptional performances and making a strong case for themselves early in the competition.

Currently, Multan Sultans occupy the first place in the standings with two wins out of two. The side is closely followed by Quetta Gladiators, who have won both of the matches that they have played but are behind on net run rate.

For the next clash of the tournament, table-toppers Multan Sultans take on Lahore Qalandars in the 7th game of the competition at the Multan Cricket Stadium on February 21, and the side will aim to maintain their winning run. On the other hand, Qalandars have lost both the games that they have played in the tournament so far and will hope that they will register their first win against Sultans.
