'The sun still comes up the next day, even if it is behind clouds' - 'Disappointed and frustrated' Jess Jonassen aims to take urn back home
Women's Ashes is currently evenly poised.
After winning the one-off Test by 89 runs and the first T20I, Australia suffered back-to-back defeats and lost the three-match T20I series 2-1. Their fate didn’t change in the ODI series as well as the Alyssa Healy-led side suffered a two-wicket defeat in the first game at Country Ground in Bristol.
With that, Australia have lost their last three matches in the ongoing Women’s Ashes and thus the problems seem to be plenty at the moment. Despite so, Australia's all-rounder Jess Jonassen is hopeful that the team can get over the line in the remaining two matches and take the urn back home. For that matter, even one game would do for the visitors as the series hangs in fine balance and they haven’t lost it since 2015.
Meanwhile, Jonassen also added that everyone in the team is pretty disappointed and frustrated with their own performance. She believes that everyone can do better and expects the team to step up in the remaining two matches. The cricketer also reminded that the team is desperate to win the ongoing edition of the marquee tournament but is not panicking at the moment.
“We’re pretty disappointed and pretty frustrated in our own performances as a group, that for the last few games haven't really put our best performances out there. But in saying that, there's a lot of fight our in group as well and we hold a lot of pride in our record as a team as well, that we've won a lot of games of cricket.
“It just so happens we've lost the last three, which is not ideal, but at the same time, it's still an Ashes to win and that's first and foremost that's at the front of our mind. This side's won a lot of games of cricket over a number of years ... the last three haven't really gone our way (but) there's no cause for panic, the sun still comes up the next day, even if it is behind clouds,” Jonassen was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Notably, the second ODI of the series will be played at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on July 16. There's a slight chance of rain spoiling the game and thus, the toss may prove to be really important for both teams.
