Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi believes that the Men in Green can consider appointing a separate captain in the shortest format of the game. The talks of removing Babar Azam as Pakistan skipper have been making the headlines for quite some time now, as many former cricketers have asked the top-order batter to rethink the captaincy.

Afridi stated that Babar Azam needs to improve as a captain. The 45-year-old also mentioned that he is against the idea of having three separate captains for three formats and thus, Babar can continue to lead in Test and ODI cricket and the team management can appoint someone new in T20I cricket.

“Win and loss are part and parcel of the game, but one shouldn’t fear loss. If experiments lead to a loss, it’s not a big deal. That gives you experience. Babar needs to improve a lot as a captain. I am not in the favour of having three captains for three different formats. What can be done is that there can be an ODI and Test captain and separate skipper for T20Is,” said the former cricketer while talking to Samaa TV.

The Khyber Agency-born cricketer also mentioned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enough time to decide and they are not bound to take a call immediately.

“Babar Azam has been leading Pakistan for the last 2-3 years. As an individual performer, he is brilliant and carries the team along with him. Whatever decision is taken, don’t take it in a hurry (on whether to remove him from captaincy from any particular format). Take some time,” Afridi added.

Babar Azam will prove to be the best captain: Wasim Akram

In contradiction to Shahid Afridi, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram had recently mentioned that Babar has enough potential and can prove himself to be the best captain if he is given enough time.

“Babar Azam’s captaincy is under criticism these days; in this difficult time, a strong hand of support came on his shoulder. We don’t need any enemy; we are self-sufficient; stop making fun of yourself; if you have Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, or Mike Brierley sitting next to you, then you will understand Babar Azam has a 2-3 years chance. He will prove to be the best captain,” said the 56-year-old while speaking to Cricket Pakistan.
