Ahead of their clash against UP Warriorz, legendary batter Virat Kohli motivated his female counterparts in the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. The 34-year-old has been an integral part of the RCB franchise since its inception and has seen a lot of ups and downs in his 15 years with the Bangalore-based team.
Now, when it comes to the Smriti Mandhana-led side, they had a terrible start to the season, losing all their first five matches. They were poor with both and ball in the meantime and thus, Kohli decided to meet the squad ahead of their match against the Warriorz in order to motivate the team and inspire them to do well in the remaining three matches.
In this speech, the former captain revealed his struggles dealing with failures and also pointed out that even though he hasn’t won the IPL yet, he always remained excited and hungry to bring the trophy to Bangalore.
“I have been playing IPL for 15 years and I haven’t won it yet. But that doesn’t stop me from being excited every year. That’s all I can do, that’s the effort I can put in every game and every tournament that I play. If we win, great but if we don’t, I’m not going to go to my grave thinking of, only if I had won the IPL. It doesn’t happen like that."
"Always think about the opportunity you have rather than how bad it is right now. There’s always a flip side to it and it can always be worse than this. And the fact we haven’t won the IPL yet, I still feel we have the best fans in the world. Only because we were always committed in every game we play for RCB. There’s no guarantee of giving a cup every year but there’s a guarantee of giving your 110% and that’s all you can strive to do,” Virat Kohli said in a video shared by RCB on YouTube.
Keep a smile on your face but inside there should be a fire growing: Kohli
The 34-year-old also pointed out that the real test is when things are not going your way. He asked everyone to keep a smile on their face but also reminded them that there should be enough hunger to go for the win in the remaining games.
“Keep that excitement alive when things are not going in your way - is the real test. This is the real test. If you had won five in a row, I wouldn’t have picked up the call to come here, to be honest. I am here to tell you that this is what is going to help you learn, not winning five in a row. So, keep your heads high and a smile on your face but inside there should be a fire growing. You are not here to give free wins to the opposition,” Kohli added.
Notably, in their latest match, Bangalore finally registered their first win of the season. They defeated the Warriorz by five wickets and with that, the franchise is still alive in the race to qualify for the next round.
