The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been impressive early in the season and are getting praises from all the experts. One of the experts who have praised the team is former IPL finalist Kane Williamson who has given his insights on how the franchise have built a balanced squad revolving around IPL winning skipper Shreyas Iyer.
The PBKS side has now won two games in a row after the win against Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) in the last game they played. It was another great performance by the Shreyas Iyer-led side, who won another convincing game at the Ekana Stadium. New Zealand cricketer and expert Williamson talked about the performance of the team in the last game, talking about the leadership and form of the skipper, and how even the upcoming players in the team have made contributions in the tournament so far.
“There's a real buzz around that team, and many players and commentators have been discussing the balance of their squad. They certainly have a great balance, but more importantly, they are playing beautifully, complementing each other exceptionally well. At the moment, they are possibly the team to watch out for—extremely well-led. Shreyas Iyer is moving to the beat of his own drum; he remains completely unfazed by external noise and just focuses on playing his game,” Williamson spoke exclusively on JioHotstar.
“He carries a real swagger, which is fantastic to see, and it seems to be infectious for the players around him. They've already used around 14 players in just two games, deploying different impact players, all of whom have made a significant contribution. It's truly impressive to see how the team is coming together,” Williamson added.
Williamson on Prabhsimran’s knock
The other player Williamson praised is PBKS wicketkeeper batter Prabhsimran Singh, who was the player of the match as well. Williamson mentioned how the wicket was not easy to bat on for the players and how Prabhsimran’s explosive knock made the difference in the chase as the game progressed, and how it created a perfect platform for Nehal Wadhera and Iyer to finish the innings.
It was an explosive start. In the first innings, the pitch didn’t seem the easiest to bat on, and it was difficult to find fluency. However, Prabhsimran didn't let that affect him—he came in with intent, threw the first punch, and never looked back. His 69 off 34 balls was incredible—shots all around the ground, completely dictating the pace of the chase. His knock set the perfect platform for Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera to come in and finish the innings,“ Williamson concluded.
