'These players should be fast-tracked' - Ravi Shastri bats for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh's prompt national selection
Ravi Shastri believes that both youngsters should be groomed for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has urged selectors to fast-track Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh to the national team after a string of impressive performances in the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. The ex-cricketer reckoned the Indian team should groom the duo for the T20 World Cup in 2024.
While Rinku Singh shocked the world with his five consecutive sixes against Gujarat Titans, Yashasvi Jaiswal registered the fastest half-century in IPL history to lay a claim to a spot in the national side. Both batters have caught the eye of experts and fans alike this season, and one could feel that they are on the radar of a national call-up.
However, former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri believes that both talented youngsters should be selected for the national team as soon as possible. With the Men in Blue eyeing to reclaim the World Cup trophy later this year, Shastri feels that Rinku and Jaiswal should be given the opportunity in the shortest format of the game, building up to the T20 World Cup next year.
"If Team India is focussing on ODI World Cup, selectors should look to give as many opportunities to the youngsters like Yashasvi and Rinku. These players should be fast-tracked and can be prepared for next year's T20 World Cup in West Indies. If the selectors don't pick them now then I don't know what else they are looking for," Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.
The future of Indian Cricket is in good hands: Harbhajan Singh
Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also praised Jaiswal after his breathtaking assault against the KKR bowlers. He was impressed by the young opener, who has been delivering good performances with the bat on a consistent basis in domestic cricket as well as franchise cricket.
"Yashasvi Jaiswal isn't just knocking at the doors of the Indian Cricket Team, he seems to be breaking it with his consistently good performances. He's carried his imperious form of domestic cricket into IPL. What a talent he is! The future of Indian Cricket is in good hands," Harbhajan said.
