Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Arshdeep Singh has shared his strategy ahead of their upcoming clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 8 at Mullanpur. The left-arm seamer spoke about his approach to restricting batters in a tournament that has seen high-scoring games, much like the previous season.

When asked about the ongoing trend of high totals in the Indian Premier League and how he plans to curb the flow of runs, Arshdeep responded with confidence, that he will look to attack the batters. He emphasised that the primary focus in the modern day  on taking wickets and breaking partnerships to halt the momentum of the batting side. The Punjab bowler added that he and the team will plans accordingly, based on the conditions and opposition, to contain the run flow effectively.

"As a bowler, you only think about picking wickets when the games are so high-scoring because every batter is just looking to hit boundaries. So our effort and plan is just to counter their attacking approach with our attacking approach, which might increase the chance of getting wickets and bringing the totals dow," Arshdeep told Star Sports.

Shreyas just wants his players to back their skill sets: Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep also lauded his captain Shreyas Iyer for backing his players to the hilt and letting themselves be.

"I have played with Shryeas under the Duleep Trophy as well. I enjoy playing under him. He backs his players a lot and gives them a chance to express themselves freely. Even here [at Punjab Kings] what I have observed is that he does not given any instructions. He just wants his players to back their skill sets and express freely. 'Play for the team, don't be selfish' - that's his motto, which I like personally. So, we will try to support him as players and help him win back-to-back titles," Arshdeep said.

Speaking of the Punjab Kings, they are currently placed fourth on the points table, with two wins and one loss. They will be looking to bounce back after their recent defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home ground. Meanwhile, CSK with one win in the ongoing IPL season will aim to get their second victory to get back on track.
