Sanjay Bangar, a former cricketer for India, made fun of the Australian media for their contentious portrayal of several events on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test match between Australia and India. At the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Australia captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first after winning the toss on February 9, Thursday.

Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja on his very first delivery of the innings' second over. India took the DRS after the umpire rejected Khawaja's LBW appeal, and ball tracking showed that the ball would have struck the leg stump. The decision was then overturned and Khawaja walked back to the pavilion.

Fox Cricket, an Australian media outlet, expressed dismay over the judgement and questioned the ball tracker.

In response to it and other stories that criticised the Nagpur pitch and Indian players, Bangar claimed that the Australian media was unable to comprehend how well India performed on the first day of the first Test.

"Well I am not on Twitter. But in India-Australia series you have to be in touch with what is happening around the globe. Some media from Australia saying that the ball tracker (is) broken and they are not happy with the DRS. And now that's crying, all these. They can't digest the fact that the Indian team has dominated on Day 1," said Bangar during an interaction on Star Sports.

Speaking of the first day of the Test match, Siraj and Shami dismissed the Australian openers before the Indian spinners took charge of the game. Ravindra Jadeja marked his international comeback in style by picking up a five-wicket haul, and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three wickets which led to the visitors being dismissed for 177 runs in the first innings.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started off India’s innings with the bat, and while the skipper dominated the play, Rahul took his game slow. He was eventually dismissed by Australian debutant Todd Murphy as India finished at 77/1 at the end of the day’s play with Rohit and Ashwin on the crease.
