After losing the first Test of the ongoing series between South Africa and India, the Rohit Sharma-led side came under major scrutiny for their performance in the match.
Coming on the back of winning the three-game ODI series, India failed to show for their performances in the longest format and lost the first Test against the Proteas by an innings and 32 runs. Seeing their performance, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan lambasted the side and asked the question if India are the biggest underachievers in world cricket.
“Here’s a question for you – India, in terms of cricket, are they one of the most under-achieving sports team in the world? With all the talent that they have… I think they are, yeah. Well, they don’t win anything. When was the last time they won something? With all the talent they have, all the skillsets… they won here (Australia) twice, magnificent but the last few World Cups, been nowhere, T20 World Cups, nowhere,” Michael Vaughan told Fox Sports.

He also reminded of the Men in Blue’s brilliant run in the ODI World Cup 2023, but was quick to point that the team eventually failed to win that tournament as well, losing to Pat Cummins-led Australia in the final. Furthermore, Vaughan stated that despite knowing what tactics to use and what players to take on the tour to South Africa, the Indian team fails to win anything ever.
“You go so South Africa, who are, you know, useful in Test match cricket and to produce a performance like that… I mean, with all the talent they have, and the resources they have, I don’t think they win anything,” Vaughan said.
