Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan backed the Three Lions to come out on top against Pat Cummins’ Australia in the eagerly-awaited Ashes, slated to kickstart on Friday, June 16. He further stated that the Aussies will find it rather challenging while being up against an energised team such as England.

Under the new management of head coach Brendon McCullum and leadership of Ben Stokes, the Three Lions have adopted an aggressive approach in the longest format, named ‘Bazball’, which seems to have paid dividends as they have won 12 of their 17 matches. Openign up on their aggressive approach, Vaughan opined that the Aussies will find it difficult to play against the home side in the forthcoming series.

“It’s very, very difficult to play against, they’re an energised team. They do play with absolutely no fear. They’re a Ferrari … they don’t have a brake in their cars,” Vaughan told Fox Cricket.

Bowling is a real concern: Michael Vaughan

With the likes of James Anderson, Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood sustaining injuries prior to the all-important series, Vaughan also added that the hosts could be exposed as the aforementioned bowlers have not got much time with the ball lately.

“I do have a little bit of a worry about the bowlers because we all know you can be as chilled as you like with the batting in terms of your mental approach, you can be fresh to play and sometimes being fresh is the best kind of mindset. but with bowling, not having the overs in the legs, not having time in the middle in the field, it’s a real concern,” he added.

“(James) Anderson has not bowled for weeks, Ollie Robinson has not bowled for weeks, Ben Stokes has not bowled for months, (Mark) Wood has not bowled for months, Moeen Ali (returned from retirement) hasn’t bowled for years and that’s England’s bowling attack. Test cricket is not easy on the body so I’m intrigued to see how they go,” expressed Vaughan.
