‘What baffles me is that this guy had his swansong’ - Lisa Sthalekar slams David Warner over retirement reversal proposal

“Therefore, Warner suggesting to answer the mayday call if it was to come, will only kick the issue down the road again. With England coming out next summer, enough is enough,” she said.

Former Australia women’s skipper Lisa Sthalekar has slammed David Warner for his recent comments, where he stated that he could come out of retirement if Australia need him in the future. Australia are currently in a pickle as they are looking to decide who will open in the upcoming Border Gavaskar series against India, which will kick off in Perth from November 22.

Recently, Warner opined that he would be available if the team needs an opener, and the statement did not sit well with Sthalekar. “What baffles me is that this guy had his swansong last summer to say farewell and finish on his terms. One could argue that because of that allowance, the team is in this situation as selectors didn’t use those Tests wisely to blood the next opener,” Sthalekar was quoted as saying by News18.

“Therefore, Warner suggesting to answer the mayday call if it was to come, will only kick the issue down the road again. With England coming out next summer, enough is enough,” she added.

I don't know if he was serious: Marnus Labuschagne

Furthermore, star Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne also reacted to Warner’s recent comments. He opined that he was unsure whether Warner was serious about coming out of retirement or whether he was just joking.

"I don't know if he was serious or whether he was joking. It is always hard to tell. I don't know what to make of that,” Labuschagne said.

Interestingly, Steve Smith has been opening for Australia in Tests after Warner’s retirement, but he will be moving down to the middle order as the Aussies are looking for another option to open the innings.
