Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya and head coach Mark Boucher recently held their first joint press conference in Mumbai, amidst gearing up for the imminent Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season.
With the IPL set to commence on March 22 in Chepauk, the MI squad are ready to hit the ground running, eyeing a promising start against Hardik's former team, the Gujarat Titans, on March 24 in Ahmedabad. Addressing the team's dynamics, Pandya emphasized the significance of premier bowler Jasprit Bumrah's leadership role, citing his pivotal contributions on and off the field.
"Jassi has been our no. 1 bowler and he has been a champion cricketer. Last year, they did miss him and yes he is definitely a leader in the group," remarked Pandya, highlighting Bumrah's indispensable role in the squad, as quoted by NDTV.
Meanwhile, coach Mark Boucher expressed optimism about Rohit Sharma's form, praising his stellar performance against England and anticipating a remarkable season ahead.
"Rohit has been in a fantastic touch. The way he's hitting the ball against England was fantastic. I am looking forward to see him go out and express himself. If he has a fantastic season, we will be there in the dying stages of the tournament," stated Boucher, emphasizing the importance of Rohit's contribution to MI's campaign.
I don't take myself up in success or down in failures: Pandya
Engaging with fans, new MI skipper Hardik Pandya shed light on his role as an all-rounder for his side in IPL 2024. Aiming to finish games and relishing the opportunity to contribute significantly to the team's success. Responding to queries about MI's opening game jinx, Boucher lightened the mood, assuring fans of the team's readiness while maintaining a humorous tone.
"This IPL, I will play as an all-rounder and finish as many games as possible and enjoy the position I have always loved," Pandya said.
"(Everyone laughs) We have addressed that issue this time but are open to ideas from the fans," said Boucher with a chuckle.

Discussing the winning mentality, Pandya emphasized the importance of remaining grounded amidst success and failure, highlighting the significance of teamwork and consistency in achieving desired outcomes.
"I have believed in remaining neutral. I don't take myself up in success or down in failures. That helps me to remain consistent and it has helped me a lot in my career. There are a lot of expectations because we have won many times but winning a title takes a lot of time and process. It takes a lot of empathy and taking care of each other. That's very important to me," Pandya concluded.
