The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently led by Australia after the Boxing Day Test victory at Melbourne. However, there is still a running debate on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal which turned the game in favour of Australia completely. The home team eventually bowled out the visitors for 155 and won the game by 184 runs.

Though the Indian batters have not been at their best in this series the team management would at least be happy with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance at the MCG. The young left-hander tried his best to save the game, scoring a brilliant 84 from 208 deliveries but was finally dismissed by Pat Cummins. The Australians reviewed and though there was no spike on snicko the third umpire called it in favour of Australia based on a deflection. This led to Sunil Gavaskar questioning the decision by TV umpire Sharfuddoula.

“If you are using technology, then use technology only. Whatever I am seeing, I always say that this is an optical illusion. This is an optical illusion. There is snicko, what does snicko say? Snicko is a straight line. So it is absolutely not out," said Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.

“According to me, this is not out. If anything could be seen from snicko, then it was different. This is a wrong decision. Absolutely wrong decision. Otherwise, don't use technology. If you are going to go with optical illusion, then don't use technology at all. It's simple. It's very simple," Gavaskar added.

Yashasvi was clearly not out: Rajeev Shukla

Gavaskar was not the only one who felt an issue with the decision of the third umpire as BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla also agreed with Gavaskar’s views, saying the third umpire should have solid reasons to overrule the decision of the on-field umpire.

“Yashaswi jayaswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While over-ruling field umpire third umpire should have solid reasons," Shukla tweeted.
