India and Pakistan are squaring off for a second time in the ongoing 2022 Asia Cup in their first match of the Super 4 stage. While the fans were anticipating another high-octane contest, former Pakistani skipper Rashid Latif ruffled feathers with an outrageous remark on Indian batting ace Virat Kohli. Ex-Indian opener Wasim Jaffer blasted the former cricketer for his controversial statement.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has found a semblance of form after his unbeaten half-century against Hong Kong as he made up for his patchy knock against Pakistan in India's opening game of the tournament. But the top order batter was on the receiving end of a scathing remark by Rashid Latif, who stated that Kohli will never be as good as Rohit Sharma or Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is.

Latif's comment did not go down well with former Indian opening batter Wasif Jaffer, who highlighted Virat's incredible 50+ average in T20Is for India, reminding people of his consistency in the shortest format of the game, in conversation with CricTracker on 'BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti' show.

"Virat Kohli has a 50+ average in T20I cricket. He is one of the consistent players. He's a great player. This is not the right statement at all," Jaffer said to CricTracker.

Rashid Latif had questioned Virat Kohli's ability to score quickly in T20Is

Earlier, Latif had acknowledged Virat Kohli as a great player in the longer formats of the game but stated he can never become Rohit or Suryakumar, who scores at a brisk pace and can utilize the powerplay, unlike the former Indian skipper. He also blamed his pragmatic batting style for Royal Challengers Bangalore's dry run in the history of IPL.

“It is not a matter whether Virat Kohli plays slow or fast. He starts hitting after playing 30-35 balls. Rohit Sharma is the kind of player that utilizes powerplay. Virat can never become Suryakumar Yadav or Rohit Sharma. His style of play remains the same in RCB as well, that's why he could never become a champion,” Latif had remarked.
