Eden Gardens Curator Sujan Mukherjee has taken U-turn on his statement which stirred controversy. After claiming the franchises to have no say on the pitches, Sujan said he got no request from KKR on their pitch against RCB. Mukherjee had earlier claimed the pitch had assistance in it for the spinners and denied the allegations of Ajinkya Rahane.
While speaking with Sports Tak, Eden Gardens Curator said no player or official asked for a certain kind of pitch for the match between KKR and RCB. Sujan said a coach asked him how the pitch would behave. He said to have replied saying the pitch would turn and be good for batting.
"No official or player asked for the pitch requirement for the first match. A coach at the time of practice asked me about the behaviour of the pitch. I said ghumega bhi aur accha chalega (the pitch will turn, and it will be good for batting)," said Mukherjee as he held his own amidst the controversies on his pitch curation.
I never denied anything to KKR: Sujan
"I never denied anything to KKR. We have been in good relations for a long time. I prepared the pitch as per BCCI guidelines. Those who are accusing me know nothing," Sujan added while speaking with Sports Tak. His statement seems contradictory to what he said about the franchises having a say on the pitch curation.
After the match between KKR and RCB, Ajinkya claimed he preferred a surface that had some turn in it. In another interview, Sujan claimed that he prepared a neutral surface, but only the RCB spinners thrived whereas, the KKR spinners could not mark any impact in the game.
"As per the IPL rules and regulations, franchises have no say over the pitch. Ever since I have taken charge (as the Eden curator), the pitches here have been like this. It was like this in the past. Their (RCB) spinners took four wickets between them. What did the KKR spinners do? Krunal Pandya got three wickets. Suyash Sharma turned the ball to castle Andre Russell," he was quoted as saying by RevSportz.
