Legendary Australia cricketer Matthew Hayden has expressed doubts about the decision made by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to send Ravindra Jadeja in at No. 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during their IPL 2024 contest on Friday, April 5, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He suggests that England all-rounder Moeen Ali might have been a better choice to be promoted ahead of Jadeja.

Post-match, Hayden, a former CSK batter, lavished praise on Shivam Dube for his impressive 24-ball 45-run knock, remarking he was "fantastic." The 52-year-old added that tactically he believed Moeen could have made an impact while noting the lack of Jadeja's usual flow. Notably, Jadeja contributed an unbeaten 31 off 23 deliveries, including four boundaries, in CSK's six-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“Dube was fantastic in the middle again. Couple of big sixes. Would have loved to see either Gaikwad or Ravindra get on with it but that didn’t happen. Stratigically I also thought they could have brought Moeen Ali up the order as well. Jadeja hasn’t quite been there, his overall flow is not there. On a venue like this, when you’ve got to have that flow and rhythm, I thought there was an opportunity to play Moeen Ali,” Hayden told on Star Sports.

But Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early on, dismissing Rachin Ravindra for 12, followed by Shahbaz Ahmed removing captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for just 26 runs. Later, Shivam Dube's 45-run knock propelled CSK to post a modest total of 165 runs.
