Zimbabwe batter Dion Myers returned to cricket after a three-year gap which he took to pursue university studies in the UK. The 21-year-old returned in the five-match T20I series against India and smashed a brilliant half-century under pressure in the third match of the series and took his team close to victory. However, his efforts were not enough as the hosts eventually fell 23 runs short.

Myers led Zimbabwe in the 2020 U19 World Cup and made his international debut soon after that. The youngster was a part of the squad when he decided to leave cricket for the time and pursue further studies. After his return, Myers stated that he observed himself in the last few years and trained to be able to make his way back to international cricket.

The cricketer noted that the times were tough for him to juggle a lot of things but he found a way in the end. He added that it was a dream for him and thanked his teammates and family for their support throughout the journey.

“Over the last few years, there's been a lot of self-introspection, seeing how my first stint went and things like I did well... things I can improve upon. And watching a lot of cricket, honestly, along with my own training. It just helps sometimes when you're out of the system or set-up to be able to look from a panoramic view and see what you can achieve or what you can do better to give to the team,” Myers was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“It’s surreal (to return to team). It’s something that you dream about as a young boy. I really thank my teammates and my family for the support. Times were tough in the past few years, but I managed to find a way, so very proud of it. Being back in the team…it’s such a nice vibe. So, I expect a lot more from this team going forward and very excited for the future,” he added.

Zimbabwe are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series at the moment. The fourth match of the series will be played on July 13 in Harare.
