New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra is back in India for the three-match Test series. The 24-year-old made his Test debut in Kanpur in 2021 and impressed the spectators with his phenomenal performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. He scored 578 runs in that tournament and finished as the fourth-leading run-scorer.
This will be the first time when Rachin will play a Test match in Bengaluru. His family is based in the city and it is also where his father was born. Later, they shifted to Wellington, where Rachin was born. Meanwhile, speaking about playing Test cricket in Bengaluru, Rachin stated that it will be a special moment for him to play at MA Chidambaram Stadium and added that his father will also be present during the game.
“I am very proud of my Indian origin. To be able to play where a lot of my family is based is something special. Test cricket is the pinnacle. It makes it extra significant because of the family connection to play in Bengaluru. Dad will be here watching. Those moments, you pinch yourself on the journey,” Rachin was quoted as saying by Yahoo! Sport.

Notably, New Zealand recently suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in the recently concluded Test series. After which, Tim Southee stepped down as captain and Tom Latham was appointed as the new leader. He has led the team in Kane Williamson’s absence previously but now, it's going to be a difficult ask as the Black Caps are currently going through a very tough phase.
Meanwhile, star batter Kane Williamson will miss the opening Test and that’s a massive blow to the team. Their batting looked pretty ordinary in the recent past and things need to change heavily for them to find a favourable result against India in the Test series.
