'Doesn’t spur me on anymore' - Travis Head sheds light on his relationship with Indian fans
"I've been very fortunate to play well in a couple of games," said Travis Head, who scored match-winning centuries in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final in 2023.
Travis Head has been one of India's biggest nemeses in recent times. The Australian opener smashed centuries in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final in 2023 to break the hearts of the Indian fans. Head is currently plying his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
On being asked to express his views on the relation he shares with the Indian cricket fans, Head stated a lot of admiration towards the cricketing culture in India. He also spoke about his battles against the Men in Blue in recent years.
"I take it as it comes. I respect the fact that India is such a big country with such big following. I've been very fortunate to play well in a couple of games. It's not in my nature so I guess I play it up in a jovial way. Some of the stuff that comes out, I find it funny in terms of Australia vs India or the result or my performance, it doesn't spur me on anymore. I just go and try to enjoy myself, play well," Head told News 18.
"I've been put in a position against India quite a few times in the last 18 months and been able to play well but on the same note, they've played well against us a few times too. So, I definitely feel that relationship with the fans," he added.
The Sunrisers have not had a great run in IPL 2025 after finishing as runners-up last season. The Orange Army started their campaign with a win at home against Rajasthan Royals. However, they have suffered three consecutive defeats to Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Pat Cummins and Co. are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. They will return to action on Sunday, April 6, as they host Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
